I didn't get the chance to write about this because I was studying for finals (I'm done! YAY!) so I hope it's still relevant. About two weeks ago, I had my last film symposium class, where we get to watch movies before they come out and have QandAs with actors/directors/writers (we got Marion Cotillard at the beginning of the semester, before she won the Oscar) etc. Behold my surprise when I got to class, picked up my info sheet and realised that we would be watching Pineapple Express and getting James Franco for QandA! Craig Robinson (the guy from The Office, the club scene in Knocked Up and a few other roles) would also be humouring us for the evening.
Anyway, the movie was pretty hilarious and funny!James is very funny. It wasn't a typical stoner comedy and actually had some semblance of a decent plot.
After the movie, we only had about two minutes to take a break. So I got up and raced to the restroom, completely running past James in the process (I had no freaking clue it was him). I only realised the error of my ways after I ran back in the room, past James (AGAIN!) who was chatting it up with Craig Robinson.
During the QandA, James seemed a little out of it, which of course had half of us snickering and smirking and thinking he was high.
( Tidbits about the movie aka TL;DR )
That's all I can remember about the movie for now.
( Meeting James! )
That's all the James stuff I have for now, hope you enjoyed!

The series, which will receive an official pickup tomorrow at ABC's upfront presentation, centers on a 32-year-old woman (Silverstone) juggling care of her 16-year-old daughter (Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat) and her 48-year-old mother (Mullally).
Bad Mother's Handbook reps Mullally's first major TV gig since Will & Grace left the airwaves two years ago. Unless you count her eponymous talk show. But for her sake, let's not.

Warner Bros. inflated 'Speed Racer' estimates

Speed Racer’s wreck at the box office was worse than expected. When all the tickets were finally counted today, the Wachowski brothers’ homage to the 1960’s cartoon did $18.7 million, not the $20.2 million Warner Bros. claimed on Sunday. That put the debut in third place, behind the low-budget comedy What Happens in Vegas – a major blow to the egos of studio executives and the reclusive creators of the Matrix trilogy.
Studios are known to occasionally inflate their numbers slightly on the weekend to appease bosses and stars; last weekend, Paramount Pictures claimed that Iron Man did $100 million in its opening weekend when it actually made $98.6 million. It’s small potatoes, but in Hollywood, bragging rights mean everything in the box office derby.

Emile's reaction to Speed Racer's dismal box office finish in third place.
EXCLUSIVE: UTA was just informed today, and the actor's agent Shani Rosenzweig is gobsmacked, I'm told. The tenpercentery had repped Emile Hirsch for seven years. The star of Speed Racer, which opened dismally over the weekend, is planning to park himself with his manager Sam Maydew, I'm told. "He claims he just doesn't want an agent," an insider informs me. "It's further evidence how talent is nervous in this town. This is a total shocker." Look, UTA helped make Hirsch one of the best-known young leading men of his generation in films like Into the Wild (for which he was nominated for several awards), Alpha Dog, and Lords Of Dogtown, The Girl Next Door. He'll also be starring in the upcoming Gus Van Sant pic Milk. This year, he was ranked #17 on Entertainment Weekly's high-profile "30 Under 30" actors list. (2008). UTA doesn't deserve this.

Hef Reveals Why Holly Madison Will Never Be His Wife

Since she first laid eyes on the Playboy mogul in 2001, Hugh Hefner’s “lead” girlfriend Holly Madison has made it no secret that she wants to get hitched to the 82-year-old. But it seems the busty blonde is starting to give up on her dream.
“We are no closer to getting married than we were years ago,” a dejected Holly told Tarts at last week’s “Playmate of the Year” luncheon held at the iconic Mansion. “It’s like a car stalled at the side of the road.”
While the 28-year-old glamour girl may still be holding out for a miraculous jump-start, she found it difficult to deal with her boyfriend’s thoughts on the situation as she sadly turned away while he spoke.
I love Holly very much and I think we’re going to be together the rest of my life,” Hef said. “But marriage isn’t part of my puzzle. It’s not a personal thing; I just haven’t had much luck with marriages.”
But not only is the men’s magazine mogul refusing to commit to just one woman, he’s refusing to give up his passion of perusing pictures of beautiful (yet bare) bodies.
“I have no plans to retire,” Hefner added. “It’s the perfect combination of work and play that keeps you young. If I quit work it would be the beginning of the end for me.”
Speaking of endings, could his other two “Girls Next Door,” Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson, also be getting ready to move on?
“My goal is to be hosting my own show and be happily married with children, so I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately,” Bridget said.
Kendra added that her future plans also involve motherhood and marriage while at the same time she aspires to build up her brand name, so with her own label Kdub clothing ready to launch, it seems she’s well on the way to independence.

Twilight finished filming

Dear Twilighters:
It’s our last night of shooting on Twilight. Principal photography is ending….We survived snow, hail, sleet, torrential downpours, and blazing sun (when we didn’t want it) – sometimes all in one day. SEVERE WEATHER is an understatement. Before I started the film, I walked into an outdoor outfitter store and asked “What can I wear so that I can stand out in the freezing rain for 14 hours a day and not get wet?” I bought a pile of Gortex boots, rain pants, jacket, hat, neckwarmer, long underwear, and Smart Wool socks in every thickness. ALL GUARANTEED.
But, at the end of our shoot day at the beach, with Jacob and Bella, the rain soaked through all my Gortex, through three layers of jackets and socks. I rang out my waterproof gloves and could have watered my rose bushes for an entire summer. The crew had to hold down the lunch tent to keep it from blowing away. Grown men were crying, but the actors and crew gave it their best.
This movie had some rough days, but yesterday out in Valencia, in the middle of a dusty parking lot, I looked at the fence and saw a group of fans – some of you guys had made the trek from Arizona! I was bone tired, but that revved me up to see how much you guys care. I got turbo-charged and jumped on the process trailer and finished the scene. Thanks for your support!
Next, I’m heading into the editing room to start putting everything together – with music, sound effects, visual effects, etc. Getting ready for December 12th….
Love to you all,
Catherine

Diminishing Returns: American Idol Ratings Plunge
As "American Idol" races towards its May 21 grand finale and a parent is being banned from the set having crossed the line between constructive input and annoying interference, the FOX reality phenomenon is experiencing a little backstage drama of its own, hitting a 5-year low in the ratings.
Last week's Tuesday night performance show scored 21.25 million viewers, a figure many TV shows today can only dream of.
But in Idol's inflated universe, the show has not been that 'low' since its second season in 2003. Is it this year's talent? Is it that tiring practice of using celebrity mentors? Or is the Idol magic finally wearing thin?
Whatever the reason, the gap between ABC's hit contest "Dancing with the Stars," which has averaged 21.67 million viewers on Monday nights this season, appears to be getting smaller.
Although "Idol" won't be going away any time soon, if the negative trend continues, FOX may have to shake things up a bit or they'll be losing those outrageous $750,000 per 30 seconds ad rates.
AMERICAN IDOL 2008 Ratings
(Tuesday night performance shows)
33.24 million (Jan. 15)
29.05 million (Jan. 22)
28.07 million (Jan. 29)

Four Sean Taylor murder suspects won’t face death penalty
MIAMI (AP)—Prosecutors said Monday they will not seek the death penalty against four people charged with murdering Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor because the accused shooter was a minor when the crime was committed.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that people cannot be executed for crimes committed when they’re under 18, and it’s a well established legal principle that others involved in the same case as a minor cannot face the ultimate penalty if they are less directly responsible.
Assistant State Attorney Reid Rubin filed notice Friday that the death penalty will be waived. That means the four suspects could get a maximum of life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder after a trial scheduled to begin Aug. 25.
Eric Rivera Jr., who turned 18 last month, was 17 at the time police say he shot Taylor during a botched robbery at the Pro Bowl safety’s Miami-area home in November. Taylor, 24, died of massive blood loss after he was shot in the upper leg.
The Taylor family accepted prosecutor’s explanation for the move, a family spokesman said.
“All the co-defendants can’t be subject to the death penalty if the (alleged) shooter is not,” said Richard Sharpstein, a lawyer who has acted as spokesman for the Taylor family. “There are no issues of discretion here. There’s no choice.”
Prosecutors and defense attorneys are barred from discussing the case with reporters under a gag order. But Hunte’s attorney, Michael Hornung said in a telephone interview that prosecutors would have had to prove a conspiracy aimed at killing Taylor in order to seek death for the three adults.
“I’m not shocked or surprised they are not going forward with the death penalty,” Hornung said. “That would have been challenging legally.”
Taylor was an All-American at the University of Miami and was a member of the Hurricanes’ national championship team in 2001. He was selected with the fifth overall pick of the 2004 draft by the Redskins and made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2007.

Miss Theron is bitter her most recent movie The Valley of Elah underperformed at the box office and is frustrated she can’t find more roles playing strong women, like in 2005’s North Country, and Monster - which won her a Best Actress Oscar in 2004.
Says Charlize: “I asked Michael Seitzman, who wrote North Country, ‘Why don’t you write these kind of stories more; these roles for women?’ He said, ‘There isn’t the demand for it.’ It’s not necessarily Hollywood’s fault. People don’t go to see these movies. I think it’s a bigger problem. We’ve become completely fluff obsessed

Bad Tattoos

The following is the excerpted foreword from No Regrets: The Best, Worst, & Most #$%*ing Ridiculous Tattoos Ever, out May 20, from Grand Central Publishing
Growing up, I had always thought of tattoos as merely representing the idea itself—that having a tattoo simply said, "I'm the kind of person who would have a tattoo." That may have applied to the standard prison or military tattoo, but somewhere down the line tattoos stopped becoming the sole province of the badass and seamlessly slid over to that of the soft, sensitive, malnourished hipster. My guess? The unsolicited rockabilly/punkabilly revival had a hand in it. Those selfish fuckers. When the hip and affectedly unaffected get hold of something that belongs culturally to another group, excitement abounds as they then excitedly coopt it and an open display of competition is set in motion. That's half the point of that shit anyway.
The tacit one-upmanship and approvals and disapprovals are whispered throughout the land. This applies to tattoos as well, of course. We've seen the evolution of the ugly, blurry, monochromatic Navy anchor and the dark snakes-and-dagger-through-the-heart tattoos becoming those now-ubiquitous mysterious Chinese letters reading "tranquility" or "boiling sea" or who knows what. But recently the evolution has jumped almost tenfold from there. In only a few short years, we find that the "tribal tat" we were staring at in every dance club on the Jersey shore has become a 20-color tableau of Bea Arthur giving Alex Trebek a hand-job on the calf of the professional dog walker ahead of us in line at the community gardens bike repair shop.
What? That isn't a tattoo yet? Hmmm, well, as this book goes to show, just give it time. Its inevitable day draws near. That's what's so fascinating and unnerving about this collection. After leafing through it, one is left with the question, "Jesus Christ! What's next for these people?!" This book is filled with mistakes, bad jokes, and delusions. Even given the qualification of "irony," most of these tattoos are so horrific that I predict a painful suicide will be the future of at least a handful of their owners. What happens to the young man who has a full-scale back tat of a smiling, beatific Adam Duritz with the legend "Straight Edge" above when he realizes that perhaps Ian MacKaye might have been the better choice for something so bold and permanent? And Bob Barker? Who the fuck is gonna remember that guy in 10 years? And then you have to explain that he was an unremarkable game-show host? And then you have to explain that you thought it was funny (at the time) and then you have to resort to roofies if you ever want to get laid again?
Oh well, whether they know it or not, or whether it was intentional or not, these brave people collected herein have done us a tremendous service. They have entertained us and filled our lives with song!*—David Cross
